no title- just rambling...

Well, Corbin's sleeping thru the night was short-lived. Lasted exactly 1 week. *sigh*

I think he's getting close to letting out a yell...he was testing out his vocals this morning- it was cute!

What was not cute was getting upchucked on twice this morning- once by each! Thanks so much! Then Corbs did it again tonight- and I totally wasn't expecting that one! ick!

We are preparing ourselves for guests again. We bought new furniture Sunday. A sleeper sofa and love seat. Need to sell the leather couch now. Doubt I use Ebay for that! We also bought Sammy a loft bed- he's very excited. Sorry kid, probably won't get set up for awhile! We are so slow with such things! He was so sweet about his current bed tho- said, "Mom, can we save my old bed for the babies? Pop Pop made it and its special" Sweet! Told him we don't have room to save the bed, but we can sure make a shelf out of the headboard for him since his name is on it.

Easter

The Easter Bunny has to get up awful early at our house to get those eggs and basket hidden before Sammy gets up! I think he was up around 5:45am! Goodness. Anyway, the kids had a blast. Of course the twins didn't know what the heck was going on, but we had fun watching them anyway!

We had a wonderful dinner with our friends Brian and Jenni and their kids. It was nice. Jenni made a delicious ham loaf and we had more than enough food!

In other news, Corbin is sleeping through the night continuously now. Spencer is not, however. But, he's getting there.

Sleep filled night!

Wednesday night the twins both slept through the night! Woo Hooo! Spencer went from 10:30 to 5:30 and Corbin went from 8:30 to 7:30!

They had their followup at the hospital and got to see some of their old " buddies" from the NICU, like Dr. B and Sara, Natalie, and Shanna. They are right on target and that was great news!

Sammy did really well at soccer practice yesterday- really focused and trying hard! Good job, Sammy!

Spencer goes for his recheck today on his ear- blown eardrum from an ear infection. Poor little guy- hopefully things will look good today.

Then need to hard boil eggs, make jello jigglers and fruity pebble bunnies, and get ready for the Easter weekend!

Practice, practice, practice

Sammy and Neil had soccer practice yesterday. Neil is in a very competitive league that travels around the area. Sammy is in the local parks and rec soccer club. I didn't go to Neil's practice, but I brought the twins to Sammy's. Since our town is relatively small, there were several people there, from church and/or other places that hadn't seen the twins yet. So that was fun to "show them off" so to speak. Sammy had his issues focusing during practice, although it looked like he was trying, but some of the other kids were getting him off track. But, he did ok overall.

Tonite is Sammy's school musical. He's been practicing for weeks. He's very excited. Linda and Bailey are coming to babysit the twins so that Scott and I can go. Their first official babysitters! Sammy is going to be a squirrel. We'll definately get some pictures!

The twins' debut

The twins made their first public debut today. We just had to get pictures with the Easter Bunny. We said we wouldn't bring them out into public for fear of all the winter germs out there...but, we did. They did really well and we got lots of stares and smiles. At least no one tried to come up and touch the babies...well, except for the photographer. *sigh* there is one in every bunch. But, the picture turned out nice...and we even took a couple with the older brothers. Sammy still believes, but Neil is too cool for that now. Oh my...11 going on 25.

Actual date on this is April 8, 2006, not April 7.

College talks

Sammy is talking about college already...oh dear- an overachiever maybe? LOL Actually he saw an ad on a juice container for a contest to win $10,000 scholarship or something. He said, "it costs $ to go to college?!" and Scott and I laughed. He says, "that's not fair!" Hey, you heard it from the kid....its not fair! Then he said "it costs $10,000 to go to college"...again we laughed. Sad. He asked about Drake University (in Des Moines) so we told him it would cost him his right arm and a kidney.....plus the $10,000.

Lizards, sleep schedules, and soccer

May they rest in peace..... Neil's lizards have passed away. Neil hasn't been here for 2 weeks and apparently Daddy forgot to take care of them. I don't touch them- ick. He definately saw 1 of them dead in the bottom of their tank. I'm sure the other 2 will be found suffering the same fate. I won't look. I feel bad for the poor creatures- I'm sure they suffered. Dehydration has got to be a bad way to go. Add that to my list of how I don't want to die. Neil's gonna be so upset tonite.

On another note, Spencer was up bright and early this morning and has already eaten and is playing nicely on the floor on his blankie. Corbs has decided to sleep in- its going on 8:30 and he's still in snoozer land. They both awoke at 3am this morning- lucky me! and had to eat RIGHT NOW! So, I had to listen to squalling babies for about 15 minutes this morning while their bottles heated. Then I had to do the fun task of simultaneously feeding... love it! If you need to burp, just hang on....! LOL

Sammy had his first soccer practice last night. We all would have gone together, but Mommy never got a shower in yesterday and wasn't about to go out in public. Yesterday was one of those Super Mommy days. All about babies- mostly Corbs, barely enough time to go to the bathroom. He just had a rough day...guess he's making up for it now. Maybe today will be much better. Its my hope that I can rustle up the troops and get out for a bit to a couple of drive-thrus....Culvers and Coffee Shop. My Friday splurge...haven't been out all week. Can you say crazy woman?!

Big Boys!

Yesterday was the nurse visit for the twins. Spencer is 12lbs1oz and Corbin is 12lbs5oz. The nurse says they look really good. It wasn't the usual nurse, Carol. Her name was Gloria. She was nice, but we look forward to Carol's visits. Carol gets to be the bad guy in 2 weeks and give them their last synagis injections. Cori, the physical therapist also came and played with Corbin. She said she only needs to see him one more time- his left sided preference is pretty much gone. She tells me that they will be sitting in their bumbos within 2 weeks. She promised! Yay!

Today is early out for Sammy- he'll be home at noon. Its gonna be a goreous day today. Finally, I think spring is trying to arrive. It will be almost 70 today. So, I think its a good day for a nice long walk. Maybe we'll walk to Lakewood.

Planning to have friends over for lunch on Sunday. I'm happy. We haven't had friends over in a long time! I love entertaining. Now that I'm home and not working out of the home, maybe we can plan more get togethers. We'll see. But, Kathy and Scott are coming to meet the twins.

Sibling competition

Mornings are the easiest time for me. After Sammy goes to school, the twins are fed and changed, I have at least an hour for myself. Why is that? Why do I get this me time in the morning? Why don't I get a break in the afternoon? Just pondering....

I have a slower day today. A group of physical and occupational therapists and a developmental educator are coming by today for the twins. Then Sammy has his first soccer practice this evening. We'll see how he enjoys it. I don't think he's going to be into sports. He is a music lover- he keeps asking me for guitar lessons. I need to afford a decent guitar first.

Anyway- he keeps trying these sports out because of this incessant competition with Neil. Neil is definately the sports kid. Neil's very good at soccer. Now Neil is gearing up to play football in the fall- that I worry about because he's so small. That and he doesn't handle getting hurt very well. Sammy can handle getting hurt- he's Mr. Tough Guy. Sammy wants to play football too.

Its this back and forth competition. Sammy played football a couple of seasons ago and he hated it because it was so cold one morning, that his hands hurt and he couldn't even hold the football. Anyway, because Sammy played, ever since then Neil has been clammoring about playing. Sammy never wanted to play again...until now. Now Neil is signed up to play in the fall and now Sammy wants to play again.

Same thing with school. Sammy is always trying to "catch up" to Neil- who is 2 grades ahead. Sammy is extremely smart and is actually very close to catching up to Neil and I think he's even surpassed Neil in reading skills. But, Neil is very good in math and Sammy is forever trying to catch up to his level. I don't know if its good or bad for either of them. On one hand, Sammy pushes himself to learn more and more, yet on the other hand, the closer Sammy gets to Neil's level, I'm worried that Neil will feel that he's "failing" at something and he's such a perfectionist that this could take a toll. At least its good that one excels in sports and art and the other excels in academics and music. Right?

I wonder what's in store for us with the twins? We got special seats for them yesterday called Bumbo seats. They are seats designed for babies that have good head control and they allow them to sit up. Well, I put them each in the seat and realized that neither of them has good head control yet. Their adjusted age is just over 2 months, so wobbly head control is expected at 2 months....but their actual age is just over 4 months...so of course, Mommy worries. That's what Mommy does.

Ok...this is the first post. Probably won't provide much insight or be very profound....but it is what it is.

Its a lazy Sunday morning. No church because we couldn't get our butts out of bed in time because of the time change.

I still don't understand the purpose of Daylight Savings Time in this day and age. Why bother.

Happenings for today? Not much. Neil is at his Mom's this weekend. Sammy is buried in his gameboy as usual, Scott is getting ready for his routine Sunday morning trip to the gas station for the paper and my cappuccino.

Our goals for today- Scott is going to final check over the tax return and send it (he actually did the return a month ago, but needs to check it over yet..oh life in the house with twin babies! LOL) and I am going to sweep the bathrooms and hallways so I can put the clean rugs back down. Aren't we totally exciting?

The twins are dressed and ready for the day...their day consists of swinging in a swing, tummy time, eating, puking, pooping, and sleeping. :-) At least we get smiles out of them occasionally and they are grabbing at things now...so once in a while they get a hold of my shirt, or help-my hair! LOL Not as fussy as they had been, growing out of that. Yay!

Ok- my first blog....maybe I'll post something a little more insightful in the future. Right now, all my brain can handle is the day to day routine.
